Female survivors of cancer are at a risk of infertility. If you plan to have children in the future it is best to discuss your risks before treatment begins. Infertility may be caused due to

  • Cancer-and-its-treatmentTreatment or surgery directly affecting the reproductive organs
  • Surgical removal of the ovary, uterus and fallopian tubes
  • Radiation treatment for abdominal cancer

Drugs used in Chemotherapy especially those from the alkylating agents group can cause infertility.

It is a good option to contact your fertility specialist as soon as you try to conceive as you may deplete you egg resource before you realize you are having problems.
